All our Mango wood used in our Provence dining room furniture is from non endangered sources and has been used for generations in the manufacturing of furniture. When a Mango tree has come the end of its productive fruiting life it is felled and a sapling is replanted in its place. The Mango wood used is fast growing and indigenous to Java. It is never taken from the endangered rain forest and is not subject to certification. As with all our Mango wood furniture, because it is entirely hand made using traditional tools and methods, very little fossil fuel energy is used in its manufacture. In addition the kiln drying of the Mango wood uses only off cuts so no part of the Mango tree is wasted. All the employees in Java are paid higher than minimum wages set by the local government, with regular salary reviews and increases awarded on a performance basis, and a yearly bonus payment and holiday. They are also provided a medical / health and pension insurance scheme which covers both them and their family and only over 18 year olds are employed.
